Make no mistake: Acupuncture is a medical practice which requires training and licensing that is about as stringent as any other area of medicine.  Most states require acupuncturists to be state-licensed, with a lengthy list of academic credentials.  In states that have not mandated licensing, a certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists is the usual standard.

Do not go to an acupuncturist who does not hold the proper licenses.

4 – How long do you see my treatment taking?

If you have a specific ailment or complaint, you will want to hold an initial consultation with your acupuncturist – or potentially with several.  This is the time to ask about their basic plan for treatment, how long it will take, and what milestones to expect.  Compare their answers to find the one that works best with your lifestyle and expectations.
